Degie is a RN with over 23 years of experience providing exceptional, patient-centered care in a variety of healthcare settings. After earning her Associate Degree in Nursing from Jimma University, she began her career at Gondar College of Medical Sciences Hospital and served as a staff and head nurse for six years. After moving to the U.S, she continued her work in acute and critical care further garnering experience in transplant and specialized cardiac care. Passionate about improving practice and career advancement, she continued her education and achieved her BSN and MSN with a focus in Infection Prevention and Control from American Sentinel University.
Degie currently works as an infection prevention practitioner at an academic medical center. In her role, she is responsible for performing infection prevention surveillance of epidemiologically significant diseases, crafting practice and quality improvement policies and initiatives; providing education to the healthcare team to promote safety and quality patient care. Degie is a member of the national Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC) and also Certified in Ambulatory PeriAnesthesia nursing (CAPA).
Besides her dedication to her profession, Degie strongly believes in promoting community health through education and outreach to tackle health disparity. Currently, she provides COVID awareness and prevention education to her local community.
